- Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, Katia Aveiro, has revealed that the Portugal captain is expected to retire from international football after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to bring the curtain down on his legendary international career after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to his sister, Katia Aveiro.
Speaking during Portugal’s World Cup campaign, Katia revealed that the tournament would mark the final chapter of the 41-year-old’s journey with the national team, describing it as his “last dance.”
The revelation comes amid growing debate over Ronaldo’s performances despite scoring twice against Uzbekistan to help Portugal progress in the tournament.
Katia also defended the five-time Ballon d’Or winner against recent criticism, insisting his remarkable achievements over more than two decades outweigh any negative comments.
“Enjoy it while it lasts. It’s ending soon. This is his last dance,” she said, while expressing confidence that Portugal can still make a deep run at the World Cup.
Although Portugal coach Roberto Martinez recently suggested Ronaldo could still feature at the 2030 World Cup, Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença has played down that possibility, saying it is highly unlikely.
With 84 international goals and more than 20 goals in major tournaments, Ronaldo remains Portugal’s all-time leading scorer and one of the greatest players in football history.
