- A celebratory motorcade of final-year students marking their sign-out at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, turned tragic when one of the vehicles lost control during an attempted overtaking and crashed into a stationary truck.

A final-year student of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, has died in a road accident during a convoy parade organised to celebrate the completion of final examinations.
The incident occurred on Monday at Ujoelen, near the primary school, shortly after the students finished their last paper.
According to reports shared by Inside Edo on Facebook, the vehicle involved was attempting to overtake another when it lost control and rammed into a truck.
Eyewitnesses said residents rushed to the scene but were unable to rescue the victim.
A post on the platform read:
“The risky manoeuvre reportedly led to a loss of control, causing the fatal incident. Residents who were nearby rushed to the scene, but the victim could not be saved.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) also reported that the students were said to have been driving recklessly before the crash.

Witnesses claimed the group failed to observe safety rules as they drove in a celebration convoy following their signing-out activities.
The tragedy occurred when the deceased attempted to overtake a moving truck and collided with another truck parked along the road.

However, Mathew later confirmed the accident, disclosing that one person died while five others were injured.
“The students, after writing their last paper, took to the road in a convoy.
In the process, one of them overtook another vehicle and rammed into a stationary truck,” he said.
