Nigeria’s Army Chief Shaibu Seeks Traditional Support for Ongoing Military Operations

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, seeking royal blessings and traditional backing for ongoing military operations across the country.
The visit was disclosed in a statement by the acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, in Abuja. Lt.-Gen. Shaibu said he met with the monarch to express appreciation for the consistent support the Nigerian Army has received from the Oba and the council of traditional rulers in Lagos.
He added that customs and traditions remain essential to strengthening national unity and fostering civil–military relations.

He commended Oba Akiolu for his fatherly guidance to army formations within Lagos State, describing the monarch’s support as invaluable to operational efficiency and cooperation with communities.

In his response, the Oba of Lagos praised the Nigerian Army for its sacrifices and its vital role in maintaining stability across the country.
He commended Lt.-Gen. Shaibu for his leadership and dedication to peace and offered prayers for his success as the 25th Chief of Army Staff, as well as for sustained peace nationwide.
