The Federal Government is currently grappling with significant challenges and a revenue deficit attributed to a burgeoning population, according to the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu.
VerseNews reports that he expressed concerns about the government’s ability to pay salaries and called on non-governmental organizations to assist in filling the financial gaps.
The population is rapidly increasing, while unemployment is on the rise amidst high inflation.
Bagudu highlighted the challenges, emphasizing that the government is struggling to manage its finances, particularly regarding salary payments.
According to the minister: “Government faces enormous challenges especially now; the government is facing a revenue deficit. There is no money anywhere in the country; the government is just managing to pay salaries.
“The growth rate is very slow and the population growth is fast pacing and increasing. Unemployment is surging in the midst of high inflation.”
This issue comes in the context of reports that federal civil servants will receive a wage award of N35,000, effective from September 1, 2023.
