Senate President Godswill Akpabio has denied reports that he recently filed fresh charges against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, Akpabio described the claims as false and misleading, noting that the ₦200 billion defamation suit was filed more than three months ago.

“Her claim that the matter was ‘just filed’ is therefore false, misleading, and intended to distort public understanding of the case,” Udom said on Saturday.

According to the statement, the progress of the suit stalled temporarily due to routine administrative and judicial processes. The court’s bailiff reportedly made several attempts to serve Akpoti-Uduaghan personally, but each effort failed, prompting a request for substituted service.

“The court granted the application for substituted service in November after repeated evasions,” the statement said.

Akpabio maintained that legal disputes must be resolved in court, not on social media.

“The online applause Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan habitually seeks cannot replace credible evidence, legal procedure, or judicial scrutiny,” he stated, accusing her of following a familiar pattern from her six-month Senate suspension, which she ultimately served in full.

The Senate President challenged Akpoti-Uduaghan to present her evidence before a competent court rather than relying on “sensational commentary designed to attract sympathy and obscure the facts.”

“The law is guided by proof, procedure, and due process — not sentiment, not emotion, and certainly not social-media theatrics,” he added.
