Manchester United’s 2023/24 season continued in chaotic fashion with a rather surprising 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils had a brief intermission by beating Chelsea 2-1 in the midweek but have now promptly returned to losing ways by collapsing embarrassingly at home to Bournemouth.

The result is Bournemouth’s fourth win in their last five games in which they are unbeaten as well as their first ever win at Old Trafford in the club’s history.

Bournemouth started the game on the front foot and were immediately rewarded for their endeavour with a goal in the fifth minute by Dominic Solanke.

The Cherries high up the pitch and won the ball inside the opposition half and Lewis Cook fired a low cross into the box where Dominic Solanke was waiting to slot the ball into the far corner past the helpless Andre Onana.

Solanke continued to worry the Manchester United defence as he was initially involved in a goal that was ruled offside after which he hit the woodwork from close range all in the first half.

The story wouldn’t change in the second half as United failed to create any clear-cut chances and Bournemouth wasted no time in punishing them.

Although the hosts did improve later on in search for the equaliser, it was the visitors who were decisive once again as Phillip Billing headed home the second goal in the 68th minute just 10 minutes after coming off the bench.

A third goal followed just five minutes later and Marcos Senesi was the man on target, nodding home Tavernier’s corner after being left unmarked in the hosts’ penalty area
