Governor Siminalayi Fubara has appointed new top aides in Rivers State, a move coming amid ongoing political tension.
- Governor Siminalayi Fubara has appointed new top aides in Rivers State, a move coming amid ongoing political tension and recent reconciliation efforts involving Nyesom Wike and the state assembly.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has approved the appointment of a new Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG) and a new Chief of Staff at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
The announcement was made on Thursday, February 26, 2026, in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi.
According to the statement, Dagogo Wokoma has been appointed as the new SSG, while Sunny Ewule will serve as the new Chief of Staff. Both appointments take immediate effect.
The swearing-in ceremony for the newly appointed officials is scheduled to hold at 2 p.m. at the Executive Council Chamber of the Government House in Port Harcourt.
The new SSG replaces Benibo Anabraba, while Ewule takes over from Edison Ehie, whose role had drawn public attention in recent months due to the political crisis in the state.
The appointments come amid lingering political tensions between Governor Fubara and his former ally, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

The crisis had escalated into an impeachment attempt by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. However, the situation was later defused following the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who brokered peace between the parties.
Subsequently, the Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, announced the withdrawal of the impeachment process against the governor and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
Prior to these latest appointments, Governor Fubara had dissolved his cabinet, including eight commissioners, and relieved all Special Advisers of their duties—moves widely seen as part of efforts to reset his administration amid the political crisis.
