On Sunday at 1 pm, Nigeria’s national power grid experienced a nationwide collapse, resulting in a complete shutdown of electricity generation.
VerseNews gathered that power generation on the national grid crashed to zero megawatts at about 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Data from the power ministry revealed a drop in generation from 2,407MW around 11:53 am to 31MW by noon before collapsing to 0MW an hour later.
This led to widespread blackouts across the country, with power distribution companies attributing it to the collapse of the grid managed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
All 20 power plants, except Ibom Power with 31MW, were offline.
This marks another incident of grid collapse following a series of collapses in September and December of the previous year.
