The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ibrahim Abdullahi, has revealed that the party is actively working to bring back Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News Thursday night, Abdullahi described Obi as “our product” and “a very great capital for any political party,” stating that the PDP is keen on his return.

Peter Obi is our product, and the PDP indeed wants to get him back. He is a very great capital for any political party, and any political party that will have him will be to their advantage,” he said.

He also praised Obi’s performance in the 2023 presidential election, saying, “The truth of the matter is if he had not gone the way he did… and proved that mettle to generate over six million in spite of the rigging… Peter Obi is truly a political capital no doubt about it.

Peter Obi, a former vice presidential candidate of the PDP, left the party for the Labour Party in 2022, securing its sole presidential ticket. He went on to win twelve states, including the FCT, but came third behind Atiku Abubakar and eventual winner Bola Tinubu, according to INEC’s final results.

Though Obi has reaffirmed his membership in the Labour Party, he recently aligned with a new political coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Meanwhile, former PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has also exited the PDP and is a key figure in the emerging opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 elections
