  • Nigerian youths have taken to social media to express frustration following the Federal Government’s declaration of Thursday and Friday as public holidays for Eid-el-Fitr.

The announcement, made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, confirmed March 19 and 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark the end of Ramadan.

While the minister congratulated Muslims and urged Nigerians to uphold values of peace, love, and unity, the decision has not gone down well with many young Nigerians.

Several critics argued that a Friday and Monday holiday format would have been more favourable, allowing for a longer weekend break. Many also referenced former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola, praising his approach to holiday scheduling.
