Popular Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo, has died after battling stage-four cancer.
The actor’s death was confirmed by multiple sources, including Best of Nollywood founder, Seun Oloketuyi, who announced the news on social media.
“Taiwo Hassan Ogogo is dead. He finally lost the battle of life,” Oloketuyi wrote.
Ogogo’s daughter, Kaira Taiwo, was also seen mourning her father during an Instagram live session on Sunday, where she expressed disbelief over his death.
Nigerian actor Saheed Balogun also paid tribute to the veteran, describing his death as a painful loss.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. You can rest now my brother Taiwo Hassan Ogogo. May Almighty Allah guide you through Aljannah. This is truly painful,” Balogun wrote.
The actor’s death came days after his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, appealed for medical assistance for their father.
On August 17, 2026, the sisters took to social media to seek medical advice and support, revealing that Ogogo had been battling stage-four cancer.
Kaira disclosed that doctors had informed the family that chemotherapy could no longer be administered because of his condition. The family subsequently explored alternative treatment options, including specialised medical procedures and traditional remedies.
Ogogo was a prominent figure in the Nigerian film industry and was particularly celebrated for his contributions to Yoruba-language cinema, leaving behind a long-standing legacy in Nollywood.
