Ambrose Alli University Lecturer Dies in Hotel Room After Sexual Encounter With 21-Year-Old Woman

A senior lecturer at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Dr Matthew Uwuigbe, has been found dead in a hotel room in the Mosco area of Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State.
The lecturer, who was reportedly in the hotel with a 21-year-old woman identified as Angela Defa Jacob, allegedly collapsed after the encounter.
The incident was reported to the Edo State Police Command on October 5, 2026, at about 8pm.
According to the police, Uwuigbe had lodged at the hotel and engaged the services of the 21-year-old woman. He later sent her out to purchase water.
When she returned to the hotel room, she reportedly found the lecturer lying lifeless on the bed.
The spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the incident and said three people had been arrested in connection with the case.
She said the hotel owner, the hotel manager and the woman who was with the deceased were currently in police custody as investigators work to establish what led to the lecturer’s death.
The police spokesperson said, “On October 5, 2026, at about 8pm, the command received a report that Matthew Uwuigbe, a lecturer at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, had lodged at a hotel in Ekpoma and engaged the services of a 21-year-old sex worker, Angela Defa Jacob.
“He subsequently sent the woman to purchase water for him, and upon her return, she found him lying dead in the room.”
The police have not publicly established the cause of death, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
Uwuigbe’s remains have been deposited at the Oriaifo Memorial Hospital mortuary.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of Ambrose Alli University, Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, confirmed that Uwuigbe was a staff member of the institution.
However, he stressed that the incident occurred outside the university campus and that the woman involved was not a student of the institution.
He said, “We are not denying that he was our staff member, but whatever he did and what happened, it is his private life. The girl in question is not our student, and everything happened outside our institution.”
The police are continuing their investigation, while the three suspects remain in custody as authorities seek to determine the circumstances surrounding the lecturer’s death.
