The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that employers who fail to provide accommodation and transportation for corps members posted to their organisations will be blacklisted from receiving future corps members.

The Director-General of the scheme, Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, disclosed this during a working visit to Kogi State, according to a statement shared on the NYSC’s official social media platforms on Tuesday.

Nafiu said the policy is aimed at improving the welfare of corps members and ensuring organisations fulfil their obligations under the National Youth Service Scheme.

He urged public and private organisations to prioritise the welfare of corps members, noting that adequate support would boost their productivity, morale and overall service experience.

The NYSC Director-General also reassured corps members of the Federal Government’s commitment to their safety and welfare throughout their service year.

“The Federal Government is resolutely committed to your security and welfare,” he said, while calling on state governments, local government authorities and other stakeholders to strengthen their support for the scheme.

Nafiu reminded corps members to remain security-conscious and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate security agencies, stressing that security is everyone’s responsibility.

He also advised them to remain disciplined, dedicated to their primary assignments and avoid actions capable of tarnishing the image of the NYSC.

Encouraging participants to embrace self-reliance, the NYSC boss urged corps members to take the post-camp Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme seriously.

He encouraged them to identify business opportunities within their host communities and begin building sustainable sources of income during their service year.
