APC Chairmanship, A Burden Of Integrity On The Ruling Party
With the way things are going under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu it seems the APC are taking Nigerians for a ride.
On Thursday, August 3, 2023, members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Committee (NEC) appointed the former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, as the party’s National Chairman following the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
Senator Adamu’s sudden resignation raised a lot of questions yet no answers, but those with keen interest in Nigerian politics may have one or two reasons why the Buhari’s hand picked Senator to be the party’s national chairman took a bow from the party’s activities five months after the presidential election.
Few days after Senator Adamu’s resignation another northerner and a prominent member of the APC Ganduje showed up and started soliciting support for the party’s chairmanship from key members of the party and at last, he was given the nod by the party’s NEC to lead.
With the way things are going under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu it seems the APC are taking Nigerians for a ride.
First, it was the impromptu discontinuation of subsidy on fuel which led to the hike in the commodity without informing the various labour unions or the non provision of palliatives for millions of workers across the country who commute daily to their various places of assignments before deciding to embark on the anti-people economic policies.

Second is the ministerial appointment of former governors who cannot boast of their achievements after eight years in their respective states.
To crown it all is the appointment of Ganduje who was allegedly caught in a controversial video collecting wads of American dollars in what was said to be bribe payments from public works contractors while as governor in 2918.
Ganduje vehemently denied saying that the video was doctored.
The matter came up in court where Ganduje requested that he should not be investigated on the matter but the court in response to his request had aside ruling on his request whether or not he should be investigated.
This is the kind of personality in APC that President Tinubu approved to head the party despite alleged evidence of collecting bribe from foreign contractors.
This doesn’t look good on President Tinubu at the early stage of his administration to start accommodating political figures with questionable characters to key positions in the party and even in his cabinet.
This is rather an insult on the Nigerian people that despite the president’s campaign to stop corruption persons like Ganduje whose hands are not clean.
Although, it is a usual practice in politics to reward your loyalists but look for loyalists with impeccable characters, those who can deliver and not those who are found wanting in the court of law.
