Nigerian content creator and influencer Akinyemi Omotayo, popularly known as Asherkine, has reacted to criticism surrounding a viral video showing him flying a woman he met at a canteen in Ogun State to South Africa.

VerseNews reports that the influencer, known for creating content where he surprises strangers with cash, gifts and luxury experiences — often sponsored by brands — came under heavy scrutiny after some social media users alleged that the encounter in the video was staged.

In the clip, a 21-year-old woman identified as Chiamaka Clare claimed she worked at a local canteen in Ogun State, where she first met Asherkine.

During their interaction, the influencer asked to speak with her after work and later invited her on a post-Valentine’s Day outing in Lagos after she said she had spent the day working. Clare was seen calling her mother to seek permission before leaving with him.

The video captured their trip to Lagos, where Asherkine treated her to a luxury shopping experience at several stores, including ZTTW owned by Zlatan Ibile and YL owned by Yhemolee.

They also visited a hair store owned by Tomike Alayande, where Clare had her hair styled. During the outing, she was also gifted an expensive wristwatch before the pair later went out for dinner to celebrate the belated Valentine’s Day date.

In another surprising moment in the video, Asherkine revealed he would be flying the young woman to South Africa, leaving her visibly emotional.

Clips from the trip later showed the pair enjoying several luxury activities in the city, including clubbing, helicopter rides and other high-end experiences.

However, shortly after the video went viral online, many social media users began questioning its authenticity, with some suggesting that the encounter appeared scripted.

VerseNews reports that some users began digging through Clare’s social media pages, claiming that her lifestyle online did not align with the image of a random canteen worker portrayed in the video.

Posts circulating on social media also alleged that Clare works as a model and interior designer and had travelled outside Nigeria in the past.

The debate intensified as critics argued that her comfort in luxury environments and her reaction to meeting the influencer seemed inconsistent with someone who was supposedly unfamiliar with Asherkine’s content.
