The EFCC says VeryDarkMan will be released only if he meets his bail conditions.

It also disowned media reports claiming he was arrested over multiple petitions.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has stated that popular social media activist, Martins Otse—widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM) – will only be released upon meeting his bail conditions.

VerseNews reports that this comes amid conflicting reports regarding the reason for his arrest. BBC News Pidgin had earlier quoted EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale as saying, “We will release him if he meets his bail conditions, and we will take the case to court as soon as possible.”

The outlet also claimed that Oyewale confirmed VDM was arrested to respond to several petitions submitted by individuals.

However, the EFCC has since distanced itself from those statements, describing the entire report as false. In a post on its official Facebook page on Monday, the Commission labeled the publication by BBC News Pidgin as “fake news” and urged the public to disregard it.

Despite denying the quotes attributed to its spokesperson, the EFCC reiterated that VDM remains in custody and “will be released if he meets his bail conditions.”
