A presidential delegation dispatched by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in London to oversee the repatriation of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari’s body, following his death on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

The delegation is led by Vice President Kashim Shettima and supported by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila. They touched down in the United Kingdom on Monday morning. Their mission is to coordinate final arrangements for the dignified return of Buhari, who passed away in a London hospital after a protracted illness.

The delegation was formally received at the airport by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar and Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum.

President Tinubu, shortly after announcing Buhari’s passing, directed Vice President Shettima to personally lead the mission to London. He also ordered national flags across Nigeria to fly at half-staff in mourning and solidarity.

The late Muhammadu Buhari, who ruled as Nigeria’s Head of State from 1984 to 1985 and later served as democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023, was widely regarded as a symbol of discipline, patriotism, and integrity.

Arrangements are underway for the return of his remains to Nigeria, where official mourning rites and state honours will be observed.
