After weeks of tense negotiations, Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen is finally on the verge of a permanent transfer to Galatasaray, with a medical now imminent. The Turkish champions have met all the conditions laid out by Napoli, including the financial structure and legal safeguards, to complete the blockbuster €75 million deal.

The breakthrough came just in time, on Sunday, a day before the Monday deadline Napoli had set for the deal to be finalized.

According to Nigerian radio personality and Wazobia FM OAP, Onyebuchi Onokala, who has been closely following the saga:

“Deal done: Victor James Osimhen to Galatasaray on a permanent move. Final agreement reached between Napoli and Galatasaray for €75m as Galatasaray meets all conditions set by Napoli. Napoli gets 10 per cent of future sale. Victor battled Napoli to accept the fifth offer. Next is to make plans for medicals.”

Reports indicate that Napoli will also receive €5 million in performance-based add-ons, with Italian transfer insider Fabrizio Romano confirming that part of the deal is tied to Osimhen’s goal-scoring output.

Galatasaray’s Gamble Pays Off

Osimhen spent the 2024–25 season on loan at Galatasaray and was nothing short of phenomenal—racking up 37 goals and 8 assists in 41 appearances. Despite his success, the deal remained stalled for months over Galatasaray’s inability to provide adequate bank guarantees, a sore point for Napoli after a troubled past with the Turkish club over the 2014 transfers of Goran Pandev and Blerim Dzemaili.

Eventually, Galatasaray agreed to:

They also agreed to a crucial anti-Serie A clause, committing to pay a heavy penalty if Osimhen is sold to an Italian club within the next two years—a condition Napoli insisted on.

No to Saudi, No to Napoli Return

Despite receiving big-money interest from Saudi Arabia, Osimhen rejected a move to the Middle East and also ruled out returning to Napoli, with whom he has had a fractured relationship since last summer. His decision to stay in Istanbul proved pivotal, as he pushed Napoli to accept Galatasaray’s fifth and final offer.

Interestingly, Osimhen’s €75m release clause officially expired on July 15, but Napoli maintained the fee, betting on Galatasaray’s desperation to secure the prolific forward’s services permanently.

At 26, Osimhen is entering the peak of his career, and this move signals Galatasaray’s intent to re-establish itself as a force in European football.
