Despite a court order restraining Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke from interfering with the judiciary, the Governor approved the suspension of the Chief Judge, Justice Adepele Ojo.
VerseNews reports that this was disclosed in a statement by Governor Ademola Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Thursday.
According to the statement, the appointment of Justice Afolabi as Acting CJ was with immediate effect, following the approval of a resolution of the Osun State House of Assembly.
“Governor Ademola Adeleke has appointed Justice Olayinka David Afolabi as the Acting Chief Judge of Osun State with immediate effect following the approval of the resolution of the House of Assembly,” the statement reads.
The decision follows allegations of misconduct, abuse of power, corruption, and disregard for the rule of law against Justice Ojo by the State House of Assembly.
The Assembly called for an investigation and recommended the next in seniority to be sworn in immediately to avoid a vacuum in the third arm of government in Osun State.
The Governor, in line with the Assembly’s resolution, directed the Deputy-Governor to perform the swearing-in ceremony of the Acting Chief Judge.
Adeleke gave the directive insisting that no government official in the state is bigger than the laws of the state.
