Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his stance against the establishment of the Office of the First Lady, promising to abolish it if elected president.

In a video shared online, Obi described the role as unnecessary and wasteful, stressing that he would not permit his wife to occupy any official position in his administration.

“I went to Lagos, we had an Office of First Lady who was getting more money than some of our ministries. I will shut it down because nobody voted my wife,” he declared.

Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, maintained that even though he deeply loves his wife—“She’s my wife and I love her, my best friend, my closest friend”—she would not have an office or advisors under his leadership.

He recalled his experience in governance and emphasized his commitment to fiscal discipline: “When I was Anambra governor, I couldn’t afford to live in the house… Why should she have an office, she even have an advisor? I assure you, I will cut the cost of governance.”
