Bashir El-Rufai calls on Nigerians to join the SDP to “save the country from area boys,” seemingly criticizing Tinubu’s Lagos-based appointees after his father’s defection from the APC.

Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has called on Nigerians to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to “save the country from area boys”.

VerseNews reports that in a cryptic post on X, Bashir seemed to be referring to President Bola Tinubu’s appointees from Lagos.

This comes after his father, Nasir El-Rufai, defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the SDP, citing a disconnect between his personal values and the party’s current direction.

El-Rufai had also criticized Tinubu for appointing mostly his allies from Lagos into political offices, rather than making appointments based on merit or regional representation.
