- The Ohanaeze Youth Council has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to accept the vice-presidential slot under the African Democratic Congress, with Peter Obi as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 polls.

The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has advised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to contest the 2027 presidential election as the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while urging the party to field Peter Obi as its presidential flag-bearer.
OYC President, Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, made the appeal in a statement issued on Monday, arguing that an Obi–Atiku ticket would give the ADC its strongest chance of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Igboayaka said Peter Obi represents a pathway to “national rebirth,” insisting that if elected, the former Anambra governor would restore confidence in Nigeria’s leadership.

He also argued that since the ADC National Chairman hails from the North, Atiku should demonstrate “selflessness” by supporting a southern presidential candidate. According to him, the South is expected to complete its presidential rotation in 2031, making it necessary for the ADC to zone its 2027 ticket to the region.

“For the sake of Nigeria’s rescue, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar should pay a national price by willingly deputising former Labour Party presidential candidate Mr Peter Obi,” Igboayaka said.
The OYC leader added that the group would oppose any political arrangement that furthers what it describes as the continued marginalisation of the Igbo people.
