Gunmen have launched a wave of coordinated attacks across several northern states in the past 72 hours, killing scores of people and abducting many others, further deepening insecurity in the region.

The attacks were reported in Kebbi, Adamawa, Sokoto, and Kwara states, with communities hit by killings, kidnappings, and renewed terror activities.

In Adamawa State, the Madagali Local Government Area — hometown of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri — came under attack again on Tuesday night. Local sources said suspected Boko Haram insurgents invaded Kirchinga village around midnight, killing at least 24 residents, although official casualty figures are yet to be confirmed by authorities.

The attack marks the fourth on Madagali in five months, following previous incidents in October, November, and December 2025.

Meanwhile, in Kebbi State, gunmen stormed a mosque in Dadinkowa community, Maiyama Local Government Area, during a nighttime Qur’anic Tafsir session coinciding with Taraweeh prayers. At least five worshippers were killed and three others injured.

The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident, describing it as a reprisal attack. Police spokesperson, Bashir Usman, said security operatives had been deployed to restore calm and track down the perpetrators.

In Sokoto State, suspected bandits attacked Rabah Local Government Area, abducting several residents during a ರಾತ್ರಿ raid. The assailants reportedly fired sporadically before moving from house to house. The number of abducted victims remains unclear, though the attack comes barely a week after 16 people were kidnapped in the same area, with a ransom of ₦20 million and three motorcycles reportedly demanded.

Similarly, in Kwara State, four members of the same family were abducted in Babanla community, Ifelodun Local Government Area, while working on their farm in the early hours of Wednesday. The attackers initially seized five people but later released an elderly man, taking the remaining four to an unknown destination.

The Chairman of Ifelodun LGA, Femi Yusuf, confirmed the incident, raising concerns about residents exposing themselves to danger amid worsening insecurity.

The spate of attacks has triggered protests in Kwara North, where youths stormed the Government House in Ilorin, demanding urgent action to end killings and banditry in affected communities.

Amid the growing crisis, the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, called for the expansion of the Nigerian Army Aviation wing, stressing the need for enhanced capacity to tackle evolving security threats.

Also reacting, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, vowed justice for victims of recent attacks in the state, assuring that perpetrators would face the full weight of the law.
