Mozambique President Daniel Francisco Chapo has congratulated the Mambas for qualifying for the round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and announced an extraordinary financial reward if they eliminate Nigeria.
The Mambas secured a knockout-stage berth after finishing third in Group F, despite suffering a 2–1 defeat to Cameroon in their final group match, setting up a daunting clash with one of the tournament’s most impressive sides, the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
In a message issued on Thursday to the players and coaching staff, President Chapo praised the team’s performance at the group stage, describing the achievement as unprecedented and worthy of national pride.
Speaking on behalf of the Mozambican people, the President commended the players and technical crew for their courage, discipline and determination, which he said propelled the team to a historic milestone on the continental stage.

To further motivate the squad, President Chapo announced an extraordinary bonus of 500,000 meticais—approximately ₦11.3 million—for each player and member of the coaching staff if they defeat Nigeria and advance to the quarter-finals of the competition.
He reaffirmed that the entire nation stands firmly behind the team and expressed confidence in their ability to rise to the challenge against the Super Eagles.

Nigeria and Mozambique are set to face off at the Complexe Sportif de Fès on Monday, January 5, with kickoff scheduled for 8:00 pm.
