Sky Sports has secured the broadcast rights for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in the United Kingdom (UK) and Republic of Ireland.
Confirmation that the subscription channel would broadcast all matches live was made public five days ahead of the tournament beginning in Ivory Coast.
All 52 games will be shown live on Sky Sports, beginning with hosts Ivory Coast playing against Guinea-Bissau on January 13 and concluding with the final at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Abidjan, on February 11.
Sky also held the broadcast rights to every match at AFCON 2022, while the BBC televised 10 matches, including both semi-finals and the final.
According to the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) website, the tournament is viewed in more than 150 different countries. Viewers in the U.S. will be able to watch it on beIN Sports.
There had been uncertainty over the tournament’s broadcast rights elsewhere in the world, after a disagreement between the CAF and beIN Sports caused confusion about who would broadcast the tournament in the Middle East and North Africa. However, this was resolved in November.
SuperSport, which is one of the biggest broadcasters in Sub-Saharan Africa and has shown previous editions, missed out on the rights to New World TV, who are based in Togo.
