BREAKING: 27 Rivers House Of Assembly Members Loyal To Wike Dump PDP, Defect To APC, Details Emerge
The defection was confirmed by a member of the Assembly, Enemi George…
Many people are bothered as 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
VerseNews reports that the defection was confirmed by a member of the Assembly, Enemi George, to Channels Television on Monday, December 11, 2023,
According to him, the decision was taken during their sitting on Monday morning and added that the 27 lawmakers were under the leadership of Martin Amaewhule.
Recall that, for weeks, Amaewhule and another member, Edison Ehie, have been embroiled in a Speakership tussle.
The Assembly had in October served an impeachment notice on Governor Siminalayi Fubara under Amaewhule and removed Ehie as the House leader.
However, some members of the Assembly loyal to Fubara immediately impeached Amaewhule and made Ehie the new Speaker.
The issue in the House of Assembly started with the cold war between the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, and Fubara.
Wike had accused Fubara, of orchestrating the burning of a section of the State House Assembly complex.
There is a claim that the defection will instigate a process of impeachment against the sitting governor, Fubara.
President Bola Tinubu had met with and reconciled them following the impasse. Fubara then likened the feud to a father-and-son matter.
“For our dear state, I know everybody is wondering what’s going on, what’s not going on. We are okay, there is no problem,” Fubara said when the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, led a military delegation to the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
“If we have an internal issue, it will be resolved and everything will go back to normal. There is nothing wrong if a father and a son have a problem. If there is any problem, but I don’t think there is anything, whatever it is, we will definitely resolve the issue.”
