The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has directed its members to immediately join the nationwide strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria.

VerseNews understands that the strike, initiated over the assault on NLC president Joe Ajaero, began on Monday night.

ASUU, in a statement signed by its President, Emmanuel Osodeke and made available to VerseNews, instructed its members to participate in the action to protect the interests of Nigerian workers.

The coordinated strike reflects a broader call for improved conditions and responsibilities by various labor unions, seeking a united front for their demands.

The statement reads; “The Nigeria Labour ogress at a joint National Executive Council (NEC) of NLC and TUC directed all affiliated Unions to commence withdrawal of services with effect from 12:00 midnight today 13th November, 2023.

“As an affiliate of NLC, all members of our union are hereby directed to join this action of NLC to protect the interest of Nigerian workers and the Leadership of the Union.”

“Zonal Coordinators and Branch Chairpersons should immediately mobilize our member to participate in the action. A people united, cannot be defeated.”
