Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), blaming the party’s inability to rescue Nigeria from what he called “the prevailing political cankerworms.”

In a letter dated July 30 and addressed to the PDP Ward 1 Chairman in Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu LGA, Kogi State, Melaye said, “I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels of involvement.
“This decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation.

“Having carefully reflected on the state of the party, I can no longer in good conscience participate in the activities of the parties or lend my support to her agenda.
“In view of the above, please consider this as my formal withdrawal from the party and all its activities at all levels with immediate effect”, the letter read.

Melaye, a close ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, is now a key member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the newly adopted platform of the opposition coalition. He joins several PDP chieftains, including Atiku and Dele Momodu, who have exited the party as former Senate President David Mark leads the ADC as interim national chairman.
