  • DSS Director-General Oluwatosin Ajayi has met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa to brief him on Nigeria’s worsening security situation.

The Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Oluwatosin Ajayi, has met with President Bola Tinubu to provide an update on Nigeria’s security landscape amid recent abductions and attacks, particularly across the northern region.

The meeting, disclosed on Saturday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, took place on Friday night at the Presidential Villa. Photographs released from the meeting showed the DSS DG in the President’s office, although officials did not release further details of the discussions.

According to Onanuga, the briefing centred on the current security concerns gripping several states. “The Director-General of the Department of State Services, Mr. Tosin Adeola Ajayi, briefed President Bola Tinubu on the security situation on Friday night,” he said.

In response to the growing insecurity, the Federal Government has established a joint task force comprising all security agencies to search for abducted schoolchildren in the North. President Tinubu has also directed the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to relocate to Kebbi State to coordinate rescue operations on the ground.

Meanwhile, the United States has signaled its readiness to assist Nigeria in tackling the surge in school abductions. The offer came after a meeting in Washington between US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

Their discussion followed the US decision to designate Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” with former US President Donald Trump warning of consequences over alleged persecution of Christians in the country.

The developments highlight escalating international attention on Nigeria’s deteriorating security situation and ongoing efforts to strengthen rescue and response operations.
