Nigerian activist and former senator, Shehu Sani, has raised alarm over the decision by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration to impose tax on the use of domestic appliances by residents of Abuja.

Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the Senate between 2015 and 2019, took to his X handle on Wednesday to express concerns about the policy.

“Now that the FCT Councils will start collecting taxes for TVs and other domestic appliances, it will soon spread to the states,” he warned.

The policy, which is being implemented by the Abuja Tenement Office, mandates households to pay a uniform fee of ₦66,000 for the use of televisions, radios, and other electronic devices.
