The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called for an emergency security meeting in response to the deteriorating security situation in the nation’s capital.
VerseNews understands that incidents involving bandits breaking into houses and abducting residents from their homes have raised concerns, with some residents, including a 13-year-old secondary school student, reportedly killed over failure to meet ransom payment deadlines.
Addressing the ongoing meeting, Wike assured FCT residents that their safety is guaranteed, and the government is committed to supporting security agents with the necessary resources to address insecurity.
Attendees at the meeting include heads of security agencies in the FCT, officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), council chairmen, and traditional rulers.
Wike emphasized the responsibility of area council chairmen at the local level and urged them to be proactive in addressing security challenges.
He also stressed the need for the security apparatus to strategize and intensify efforts to curb insecurity in the territory.
