The indefinite strike that was slated to begin on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, has been suspended by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

VerseNews reports that this follows the urgent meeting between the federal government and labor leaders that was called today, Monday, October 2, 2023, Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Head of Media, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), made in a statement.

The government agreed to a number of demands, including the suspension of the Value Added Tax (VAT) on diesel for the ensuing six months.

The removal of the PMS subsidy will cause public transportation issues, so the government promised to expedite the installation of compressed natural gas (CNG) buses.

Additionally, it stated that it would start paying 15 million households N75,000 at a rate of N25,000 per month starting in October 2023 and continuing through December 2023.
