BREAKING: Ondo Governor Aiyedatiwa Finally Name Deputy
The deputy’s name had been sent to the State House of Assembly for confirmation.
Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, nominated Chief Olayide Owolabi Adelami as the deputy governor, shortly after dissolving the State Executive Council on Wednesday.
VerseNews reports that Adelami, a former Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly, is set to assume the role of deputy governor in the state.
Adelami was one of those who battled for the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary ticket in 2020 alongside the late Rotimi Akeredolu, who was the incumbent governor at the time.
Like the late Akeredolu, Olaide is from Owo town. He retired as the Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly in April 2018.
His name had been sent to the State House of Assembly for confirmation.
A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Ebenezer Adeniyan, on Wednesday said Adelami’s nomination “would be announced by the House of Assembly later today (Wednesday)”.
SaharaReporters earlier on Wednesday reported that Governor Aiyedatiwa had dissolved the State Executive Council, with immediate effect.
This was announced on Wednesday by Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, saying all the affected officials had been directed to hand over all government properties in their possession.
Aiyedatiwa was sworn in December 2023 as the governor of the state after the demise of the former governor, Akeredolu who died in Germany from cancer and was flown back to Nigeria earlier in January.
The press release by Adeniyan obtained by SaharaReporters read, “The Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has dissolved the State Executive Council, with immediate effect.
“All members of the Cabinet are to immediately hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior administrative officers in their respective offices.
“Also, all Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) and Special Assistants (SAs) are relieved of their duties, with immediate effect.
“All the affected officials are directed to hand over all government properties in their possession. The Governor thanks the affected officials for their services and contributions to the development of the State.”
