- Six members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State have defected from the PDP to the APC, citing internal divisions and unresolved political crises within the opposition party.

Six members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State, elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday.
The lawmakers are Robinson Dekor, Solomon Bob, Cyril Hart, Victor Obuzor, Blessing Amadi, and Felix Nwaeke.
While reading their letters of defection on the floor of the House, the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, cited “divisions and unresolved political crisis in the PDP” as the reason given by the lawmakers for their decision.
The defecting legislators said the prolonged crisis within the PDP had made it impossible for them to effectively pursue their political aspirations. They also pledged their loyalty to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

With the latest defections, the PDP’s strength in the Rivers State caucus of the House has drastically reduced. The party, which previously had 12 members, now has only two representatives.

The development follows last week’s defection of Boniface Emerengwa, Awaji-Inombek Abiante, and Boma Goodhead from the PDP to the APC.
The two remaining PDP lawmakers from Rivers State in the House of Representatives are the House Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, and Kelechi Nwogu.
