BREAKING: Supreme Court Affirms Fintiri As Adamawa Governor
The Supreme Court has upheld the election of Ahmadu Fintiri as the Governor of Adamawa State.
The Supreme Court has upheld the election of Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the Governor of Adamawa State.
VerseNews reports that the five-member panel unanimously dismissed the appeal filed by Aishatu Ahmed Dahiru, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last governorship election in the state.
Justice John Okoro, who presided over the panel, declared that the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner’s declaration of Dahiru as the winner was unlawful and a nullity.
He emphasized that only the Returning Officer is empowered by the Electoral Act to announce election results, and any other person who assumes that role acts illegally.
The court also stated that the appellants failed to provide credible evidence to support their claim of non-compliance with relevant laws and Dahiru’s victory with a majority of lawful votes.
