BREAKING: U.S. Rejects Nigeria Presidential Election, Says Is Dubious
Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), a ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has recognized the Nigeria’s presidential election and national assemble elections.
Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), a ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has recognized the Nigeria’s presidential election and national assemble elections held on Saturday February 25 is a dubious election.
In a press statement sighted by this Online Newspaper dated March 2, Risch said that the Nigeria’s electoral process in the just concluded election is widely viewed as deeply flawed by election observers and many Nigerians.
He condemned the administration of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) in accepting the election results without proper verification and following the due process as stated in the Electoral Act.
Risch said; “The ongoing electoral process in Nigeria is widely viewed as deeply flawed by election observers and many Nigerians. It is disappointing to see the administration rush to embrace the result while the full picture of what occurred during this electoral process is yet to be seen.

He warned that the ‘rush in judgement’ in the election may undermine the ability of U.S to relate with Nigerians adding that they are more concerned with supporting Nigerian people than the government.
“I’ve expressed similar concerns related to other areas of our relationship with the Nigerian government. I worry this rush to judgement will undermine our ability to be an effective partner to all Nigerians, especially given their longstanding desire for democracy.
“With Nigeria heading into state-level elections in just a few days, it is important that the United States be more concerned with supporting the Nigerian people and their democratic aspirations than embracing the Nigerian government.”
