The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially approved an increase in squad size for teams participating in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), raising the limit to 28 players.
In a statement issued on Thursday, CAF said the adjustment was made to help national teams better manage player fitness, injuries, workload and other health-related concerns throughout the 31-day competition.
Beyond the enlarged squad, the football body also confirmed that countries can register up to 17 technical staff members, including coaches, medical personnel, logistics experts and performance analysts.

CAF described the move as part of broader efforts to ensure that every national team arrives fully equipped for the demands of modern football.
