  • The Kwara State Government has ordered an immediate shutdown of schools across four LGAs following fresh security alerts in the Kwara South region.

The Kwara State Government has ordered the closure of all schools in four local government areas over rising security concerns in parts of the state.

The directive, conveyed through a statement issued on Wednesday by the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Kwara State chapter, Yusuf Agboola, affects schools in Isin, Irepodun, Ifelodun, and Ekiti LGAs.

Agboola explained that the move followed instructions from the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development after authorities raised alarm over new security threats in Kwara South.

“This decision was occasioned by the security challenges ravaging the area and the efforts of the government to control the situation. Treat this information as important and with the urgency it deserves, as it emanated from the ministry,” he said.

He assured school administrators and teachers that further directives would be issued as more updates emerge.

Recent attacks in parts of the state have heightened public anxiety. Earlier this week, two residents were killed and several others abducted during an attack in Eruku town, Ekiti LGA. According to the state police command, officers and local vigilantes mobilised immediately after gunshots were reported on the outskirts of the community.
