The Gombe State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mohammed Bello Mu’azu, has issued a warning to men, urging them to confirm the HIV status of their girlfriends, colloquially known as ‘side chicks.’

VerseNews learnt that the advisory comes following the arrest of an 85-year-old man who allegedly lured numerous young girls into sexual relationships, leading to the revelation that he and his four wives were HIV positive after a medical examination.

Mu’azu, while addressing journalists on the Command’s activities for 2023, cautioned the public against engaging in illicit sexual relationships and emphasized the need to verify the HIV status of their partners before any sexual engagement.

He expressed concern over the alarmingly high prevalence rate of HIV in Gombe State, describing it as a “time bomb.”

Mu’azu highlighted the risk of unsuspecting carriers in their window period and specifically warned men to be vigilant regarding the HIV status of their ‘side chicks.’

Additionally, the Commandant disclosed challenges faced by the Command related to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) supporting same-sex relationships and marriages, a situation prevalent in the state.
