An Abuja court has ordered the detention of Sujimoto CEO, Sijibomi Ogundele, as the EFCC probes an alleged ₦5.7bn contract fraud linked to abandoned school projects in Enugu State.

An Abuja Chief Magistrate Court has ordered the detention of the Chief Executive Officer of Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited, Sijibomi Ogundele, at the request of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Ogundele is being probed over an alleged ₦5.7 billion contract fraud involving the Enugu State Government.

The EFCC had earlier declared him wanted on September 5 after he reportedly ignored several summons, but he later surrendered himself to the agency.

The court order, granted on Friday, allows the EFCC to keep him in custody pending the conclusion of investigations into claims that he collected ₦5.7 billion as mobilisation funds for the construction of 22 Smart Green Schools but failed to deliver on the projects.

According to filings, Ogundele allegedly received half of the contract sum in February 2025, with a six-month mandate for completion. However, government officials maintain that most of the sites remain abandoned, with some still at foundation level despite the mobilisation.

A petition by the Enugu State Government accused the Sujimoto boss of shunning repeated calls for accountability. Joint inspections by EFCC operatives and the state’s Ministry of Works in May reportedly confirmed that only “minimal to no significant work” had been executed across the project sites.
