Court has sentenced two former domestic staff to death by hanging for poisoning ex-commissioner Rabe Nasir in 2021, while a third accomplice received five years in prison and a female suspect was acquitted.
A Katsina High Court has sentenced two former domestic staff to death by hanging for the 2021 murder of Rabe Nasir, the former Katsina State Commissioner for Science and Technology.

Justice Ibrahim Mashi ruled that Shamsu Lawal, a security guard, and Tasi’u Rabi’u, a cook, were guilty of conspiring to poison the commissioner after a failed robbery attempt at his private residence.
Autopsy results confirmed the presence of poison in Nasir’s body, backing the prosecution’s case.
A third defendant, Sani Sa’adu, another security guard, received a five-year prison term for withholding information about the murder, while a female defendant, Gift Bako, was acquitted due to insufficient evidence.

The court rejected the defence’s plea for leniency, ordering the immediate remand of the condemned men.
Nasir, a former House of Representatives member and DSS officer, served as commissioner under ex-governor Aminu Bello Masari before his tragic death in 2021.
