The Lagos State High Court has sentenced Drambi Vandi, a police officer, to death by hanging for the murder of Bolanle Raheem, a Lagos-based lawyer.
VerseNews reports that the judge, Ibironke Harrison, found Vandi guilty of murder on Monday.
“The court found the defendant guilty on one count of murder. You will be hanged by the neck till you are dead,” Harrison said.
VerseNews learnt that the incident occurred on Christmas Day in 2022 at the Ajah roundabout in Lagos when Vandi allegedly shot and killed Mrs. Raheem, who was pregnant.
Vandi, who was attached to the Ajiwe police division in Ajah, was suspended two days after the incident.
The court trial started in January, and several witnesses testified against Vandi, while he was the only witness in his defense.
He claimed that the bullet presented in court did not come from the rifle he carried on the day of the incident.
