The Ogun Government, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, is planning to introduce a law that imposes the death penalty on individuals involved in cult activities within the state and its surrounding areas.
VerseNews reports that Governor Abiodun announced this intention during a meeting with the Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, held at the Akarigbo Palace in Sagamu, Ogun.
He expressed deep concern about the widespread loss of lives and disruption of peace in Sagamu and its vicinity.
Governor Abiodun emphasized that the government would take strong action against those who engage in lawlessness anywhere in the state.
He extended sympathy to law-abiding citizens of Sagamu and the Paramount Ruler, as well as those who have suffered losses due to these criminal activities.
The governor stated his commitment to bringing all individuals responsible for these crimes, directly or indirectly, to justice.
Governor Abiodun discussed the possibility of imposing the death penalty with the Attorney General, believing that such a measure might deter potential wrongdoers.
He called upon key security officials, including the Commissioner of Police, the Director of the State Security Service (DSS), the Commander of the Civil Defence, and the AMOTEKUN Commander, to relocate to Sagamu to address the situation effectively.
Governor Abiodun reaffirmed his commitment to the state’s development and prosperity, vowing not to allow anyone to hinder progress.
