  • The Directors’ Guild of Nigeria (DGN) has launched the DGN Academy, DGN Studios, and DGN TV—bold initiatives designed to strengthen professional training, expand content creation, and reposition Nigerian directors as key players in Africa’s creative economy.

The Directors’ Guild of Nigeria (DGN) has taken a major leap toward building a more structured, inclusive, and globally competitive film industry with the official launch of three groundbreaking initiatives—DGN Academy, DGN Studios, and DGN TV.

The unveiling, which took place at the guild’s national office in Surulere, Lagos, marked a significant milestone in DGN’s strategy to elevate Nigerian directors and expand their influence within Africa’s growing creative sector. The event hosted filmmakers, government representatives, international collaborators, and industry stakeholders, signalling a new era in Nollywood’s professional development.

DGN President, Uche Agbo, highlighted that the new initiatives signify more than infrastructural expansion—they represent an entirely new creative philosophy for the guild.

“This is about structure, sustainability, and legacy. With DGN Academy, we are institutionalising knowledge transfer and preparing a new generation of filmmakers who understand both art and governance. With DGN Studios/TV, we are creating a digital window through which the world can experience our stories and our evolving creative identity,” Agbo stated.

“The Directors’ Guild is a critical part of Nigeria’s creative industry. Every leader has been committed to raising standards and enhancing the guild’s profile. This initiative is important because capacity-building creates jobs and strengthens the industry. I am excited to see this happening,” he said.

Other industry figures, including Hon. Desmond Elliot, Chief Andy Boyo, Victor Ohai, Bond Emeruwa, Andy Amenechi, and Francis Nwochei, also voiced their support for the initiative.
