The Chief Whip of the Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu has lamented on the disunity and bitterness among the members of his party, the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
VerseNews Nigeria reports that Kalu in a visit to Aso Rock on Tuesday presented his certificate of return to President Muhammadu Buhari and to thank him for the attention he gave Abia North Senatorial District in the last three years.
While briefing State House reporters after meeting with Buhari he said it was only the help of God that saved APC from outbreak of crises during and after the 2023 general elections.
The former Abia State Governor suggested that the Board of Trustees of the party should exist again, with Buhari as Chairman to supervise the welfar and progress of the party.
“It is just God that saved our party because the quarrel and rancour inside the party is so much. The party should bring back our Board of Trustees or something that looks like it so that Mr President will be Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the party so that every four or five months, he will come and see how the party is doing,” Kalu said.

“We cannot just leave the party empty-handed. The President will still be part of the conscience of the party so that we will have somebody to run to when we have problems in the party.
“It is just God that saved our party, that is the truth because the quarrel and rancour inside the party are so much. We need a man like President Buhari to be around every three or four months, we’ll go and drag him from Daura and he will settle party matters.”
This Online News Media reports that the lawmaker also informed Buhari about his intention to run for the office of the Senate President in the 10th National Assembly.
Kalu who argued that he is the best person to work with the President-Elect as the senate president said is not clear who Buhari will support for position.
