The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Joint Task Force conducted another operation in which they impounded and destroyed 470 motorcycles in Gosa village along Airport Road, Abuja.

VerseNews reports that conflict arose between the motorcycle operators and security operatives when the motorcyclists attempted to prevent the confiscation of their motorcycles, leading to a violent clash.

The task force initiated the raid, and security personnel engaged the motorcyclists in a pursuit as they scattered in different directions to evade arrest.

The operation resulted in the confiscation of around 470 motorcycles, starting from the car wash bus stop in Lugbe and covering areas like Gosa, Bill Clinton Drive, Trademore Estate, Lugbe junction, Kubwa, and its surroundings.

To quell the protesting motorcyclists who threw stones at the task force, a combination of DRTS, Police, Civil Defence, DSS, and Military personnel deployed several teargas canisters.

Some motorcyclists sustained injuries, and others were detained during the operation.

The Secretary of Transportation Secretariat, Nya Ubokutom, cautioned commercial motorcyclists to operate strictly in designated areas, emphasizing that the FCT’s vision of a pollution-free smart city cannot be realized if illegal activities persist.

Dr. Abdulateef Bello, the Director of FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Services, stated that, except for the city center, commercial motorcyclists are prohibited from operating on any FCT highways, and the administration is committed to removing them from all FCT roads.

He warned that one strategy to eliminate commercial motorcyclists from FCT roads would be to arrest passengers who patronize their services
