The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the commencement of applications for the 2026 Overseas Scholarship Scheme of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF).

The announcement was made on Monday via a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Dada Olusegun, Special Adviser to the President on Social Media.

According to the post, the scholarship scheme provides opportunities for Nigerian postgraduate students to pursue MSc and PhD programmes in oil and gas–related disciplines in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia.

“FG has announced the commencement of applications for 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Scholarships overseas,” the post stated.

A statement published on the PTDF scholarship board explained that the programme targets candidates in disciplines relevant to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector and comes with extensive benefits. These include full tuition, return flight tickets, accommodation, living allowances, health insurance, and bench fees, where applicable.

“The 2026 Overseas MSc and PhD Scholarships provide access to world-class training, research facilities, and global expertise, while developing indigenous capacity in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector,” the PTDF said.

For MSc applicants, requirements include a minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) or Second Class Upper (2.1) in a first degree, completion of the NYSC programme, computer literacy, and five O-Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.

PhD applicants are required to submit a research proposal of up to five pages, clearly outlining objectives, methodology, and data collection strategies.

The agency further disclosed that PhD candidates studying in the United Kingdom will be placed on a split-site arrangement, allowing research work to be conducted between the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK) and selected UK partner universities, including Robert Gordon University, University of Strathclyde, and University of Portsmouth.

PTDF emphasised that the scholarship is highly competitive, noting that only candidates who demonstrate exceptional merit and suitability will be shortlisted.

Applicants will be assessed based on academic qualifications, research proposals, membership of relevant professional bodies, and the relevance of proposed studies to the oil and gas industry.

The agency also warned that all applicants must ensure their National Identity Number (NIN) is verified before applying, stressing that multiple applications or submission of falsified documents will lead to automatic disqualification.

Applications are to be submitted online through the PTDF scholarship portal, and the deadline is 27 February.
