The CSO is blaming independent petroleum marketers for causing a shortage in some areas of the nation in order to raise fuel prices in the coming days.
VerseNews gathered that the Federal Capital Territory, Kaduna State, and other major cities across the nation have experienced a sudden shortage of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as gasoline, according to the Mega National Movement for Good Governance, a civil society organization based in the north.
The group accused the independent petroleum marketers of causing the shortage in order to raise fuel prices in the upcoming days during a press conference on Friday in Kaduna.
Ibrahim Tijani, the group’s spokesman, expressed concern about the fluctuating prices of petroleum products brought on by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s (NNPCL) policy reversals as well as the growing claims of massive corruption within the company that the NNPCL is involved in serious irregularities, including oil theft, shady pipeline surveillance contracts, under-remittance of oil sales revenue, and petrol subsidy scams, which it regrets have all had a negative impact on the country’s economy.
In response, the group urged President Bola Tinubu to fire Mr. Mele Kyari, the group managing director of NNPCL, and to mandate a “deep interrogation” into claims of massive corruption that was institutionalized at NNPCL under his direction.
