The 24-year-old man identified as Collins, has denied killing his girlfriend, Otuene Justina Nkang, a 20-year-old 300 level student of University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).

VerseNews had earlier reported that Collins is believed to have killed Nkang, slashed her eyes and chest, and was then caught by the estate security guards at NTA Road, Mgbuoba in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers States as he tried to dispose of her body.

After being alerted by security guards, witnesses rushed to the suspect’s apartment and found Justina’s dismembered body parts in a bag, dripping with blood.

Collins was immediately handed over to the police for further investigation on the crime.

Speaking during a public interrogation by the Rivers State Police, Collins admitted that Nkang is his girlfriend who has come to spend time with him in his rented apartment but denied being involved in her death.

According to him, he met his girlfriend’s lifeless body in his apartment when he came back to the house and couldn’t explain why some parts of her body were missing.

“I did not kill her, I only found her dead in my apartment in the morning. I don’t know who dismembered her body,” the suspect said.

When asked what he gave to his girlfriend before she died, the suspect mentioned it was only hollandia yoghurt and snacks which he personally bought for her.

Collins further said that the reason he couldn’t report the horrifying incident to the authorities was because he has been sick after the death of his girlfriend adding that nobody would have believed if he had reported.

“I did not report because I knew everyone would blame me,” he added.

Meanwhile, Nkang dead body has been inside his apartment for three days, despite the bad odour following its decomposition.

The apartment was said to look like a studio, Nkanga lifeless body was wrapped in a big nylon inside a wheelbarrow with blood dripping out of it.

Many social media users have accused the suspect of killing his girlfriend for money ritual which the specified as ‘Yahoo’.

Rivers State Police Commissioner Confirms The Death Of Nkang

Confirming the incident, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police Polycarp Nwonyi said the report got to them around 2pm on Wednesday 25 October 2023.

Nwonyi explained that someone from the neighbourhood who reported the incident at the Ozuoba police station said they were perceiving a very bad odour from the house and the DPO immediately mobilized police officers to the house.

“The police detectives forcefully open the door and they discover a Ghana-must-go bag that contain a lifeless body inside. they arrested the boyfriend of the victim when he was trying to run away” CP Nwonyi explained.

CP Nwonyi also identified Collins as a student of chemical engineering of UNIPORT and recently moved into the apartment just a week before the incident happen.

The Police Commissioner also confirmed that the arrest of the suspect and transfer the matter to State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
