  • President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded 32 ambassadorial nominees—17 non-career and 15 career diplomats—to the Senate for confirmation, unveiling a diverse list that includes former governors, ex-ministers, technocrats, and seasoned public servants.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has transmitted the names of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for screening and confirmation. The list, sent in two separate letters to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, includes 15 career diplomats and 17 non-career nominees.

President Tinubu urged the Senate to expedite the confirmation process, noting that the nominees will be deployed to countries with which Nigeria maintains strategic bilateral relations, such as China, India, South Korea, Canada, the UAE, Qatar, South Africa, Kenya, as well as key multilateral missions including the United Nations, UNESCO, and the African Union.

The nomination list features four women among the career ambassadors and six women among the non-career ambassadors.

Prominent figures on the non-career list include:
Ogbonnaya Kalu (Abia)
– Former presidential aide Reno Omokri (Delta)
– Former INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu (Bauchi)
– Former Ekiti First Lady Erelu Bisi Angela Adebayo
– Former Enugu Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi
– Former Lagos Deputy Governor Otunba Femi Pedro
– Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode
– Former Oyo First Lady Florence Ajimobi
– Former Lagos Commissioner Lola Akande
– Former Adamawa Senator Grace Bent
– Former Abia Governor Victor Okezie Ikpeazu
– Senator Jimoh Ibrahim (Ondo)
– Former Holy See Ambassador Paul Oga Adikwu

Last week, the President also forwarded three additional nominees—Ambassador Ayodele Oke (Oyo), Ambassador Amin Mohammed Dalhatu (Jigawa), and Retired Colonel Lateef Kayode Are (Ogun). They are expected to receive postings to the UK, USA, or France upon confirmation.

President Tinubu has indicated that more ambassadorial nominations will be announced in due course.
